Sample Slabs

Except for coin shows sponsored or cosponsored by Tallahassee Numismatic Club, our most popular program seems to be emission of one sample slab every year. The sample slab project has been in place since 2014, generally with one produced each year in conjunction with various themes selected by coin club members.

Tallahassee, Florida celebrated its bicentennial in 2024, and the club decided to produce two sample slabs that year. A silver Florida State quarter sample slab was released first in 2024, followed by the usual annual coin club commemoration, a 1942 silver Mercury dime. Up through 2025, a total of fourteen different sample slabs exist.

Because emission is extremely limited to no more than 25 examples, we believe there are very few complete collections in existence. Sample slabs are first offered to coin club members for private sale, and only later offered for public sale if the have not already sold out to club membership. Rarely does the series fail to sell out to club membership, and therefore, hardly any examples make it to the open market.

In 2026, TNC plans to again offer two sample slabs. One will commemorate the United States Semiquincentennial (or Bisesquicentennial, according to some sources)

and features a 1976 Washington silver quarters in high grade. The normal emission will be of a 1976 Eisenhower copper-nickel dollar in uncirculated condition.

As usual, the club has secured assistance from Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC), the club's preferred grading service. We expect the first emission of sample slabes to become available in early 2026, while the second emission will take place in summer of that same year.
